LUNA festival in Leeuwarden (NL) – organized by Media Art Friesland, a small, committed team of
creative producers and media artists – stands for seventeen days of a carefully curated mix of
experimental presentations and bigger, low-threshold projects. The festival consists of the program
components LUNA Young Masters, LUNA Nights and LUNA Currents.
LUNA Young Masters focuses on talent development and presents up-and-coming local and
international talent. Some 15 talented young artists, often just graduated, show their work in the LUNA Headquarters.
As a festival in the festival, LUNA Nights goes to the public space with three days of light, sound, and performance art by makers from the region and by prominent international artists in numerous places in the beautiful city center of Leeuwarden, reaching a very large and diverse audience. There is no fixed route that visitors can follow, but the idea is that through finding their own way and path along the art projects, they also discover and experience the city from new angles.
LUNA Currents is an extensive side-program of LUNA Talks, industry meetings, workshops, and
meeting opportunities for everyone who feels interested and inspired, from artists and curators to
school classes and enthusiastic visitors.
